Top tips for exchanging currency

Never try to predict exchange rates. It is really hard to know which way currencies will move, especially in the short term!

Travel money cards work well nowadays and any foreign currency you put on them has the exchange rate locked in.

Australia has lots of ATMs so that will probably be the main way you get cash. Most overseas countries do too but beware out-of-the-way destinations.

No fee exchange booths may offer poor rates - check carefully.

Credit cards are handy too, but let the card company know where you are going or their fraud people may freeze your card after you start using it overseas.

Cash is the ultimate security. Don’t carry a lot! But having a couple of crisp $100 notes is a great way out of problems.
