Amazing Australian Television
Australian television officially kicked
off on 16 september 1956 when the words 'welcome to televison'
were broadcast, followed for the next few decades by mainly American
shows. Colour TV was introduced in 1975.
The airwaves are now taken up mostly by commercial networks like
Seven, Nine and Ten but fortunately there is also the ABC and
the SBS with arty movies and news and programs in languages other
than English for migrants.
There are five television channels generally available in most
of populated Australia;
ABC
SBS
Channel 7 or
Prime
Channel 9 or
Win
Channel 10
Since 1995 there is also a choice of Pay-TV subscription channels

This was a very entertaining bit of TV:

Some of the Australian made TV shows include;
A Country Practice
Soap opera about the daily medical and private emotional
dramas in a town called Wandin Valley. Ran from 1981 until 1993.
Bananas In Pyjamas
Childrens TV show around two characters named B1 and
B2 that turned into a lucrative export for the ABC.
Flying Doctors
Quite realistic show about medical emergencies in
outback areas and theprivate lives of the Flying Doctor's staff
living in the fictitious town of Cooper's Crossing. About the same
principle as A Country Practice but more good outdoor shots giving
the international audience a taste for travel to Australia.
Neighbours
Started in 1985 and grew so popular that now 45 million
people around the world ( of which 11 million in the U.K.) watch
the daily goings on in Ramsay St., Erinsborough, a non-existing
Melbourne suburb. Some of the actors progressed from this series
into other careers like Kylie Minogue, Kimberley Davies and Jason
Donovan.
Pizza
Show aired by SBS in 2002 and 2003 about the lives
and adventures of some Lebanese pizza delivery boys in Sydney. Chaos
usually reigned and a good mix of drugs, sex, violence, swearing,
humor and making fun of various ethnic minorities by guys that were
from ethnic minorities themselves made this show quite entertaining.
Skippy
Though this series only ran for three years and finished
in 1971 Skippy is still world famous. The series showed the adventures
and mishaps in the life of a park ranger and his family but there
was always a happy ending as Skippy would save the day and a few
lives at the end of every show.
